Biography:
John graduated from the University of Limerick,
Ireland with a BEng Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1991,
and later with a PhD in 1995. Working mainly on the Thermal Management
of Electronics Systems, but also on other energy related projects,
he has authored or co-authored over thirty conference and journal
papers on topics related to experimental characterisation and
numerical modeling. Before joining the Department of Mechanical
and Industrial Engineering at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology
(GMIT) in 2000, he worked with Power Electronics Ireland, University
of Limerick (1995-1997) and as Senior Research Engineer and later
as Principal Scientist at the Nokia Research Centre, Helsinki,
Finland (1998-1999). He has also acted as Session Co-Chair at
the ITHERM 2000 Conference on Electronic System Thermal Management
and on the organising committee of the THERMES 2002 Conference.
Besides delivering Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Heat and
Mass Transfer courses to GMIT undergraduate students in Mechanical
Engineering and Manufacturing Technology he also retains an interest
in conducting research and is currently supervising postgraduate
students to PhD level in Refrigeration, Thermal Management of
Electronic Systems and Novel Heat Transfer Technologies.
